Switch Pitch 400 Wiring Diagram
Wiring a relay to the brake switch will allow you to put the converter in high stall for stoplights in a car with a radical camshaft. It is important to make sure that you splice into the brake switch on the side that is controlled by the switch and not the side that has continuous current. Failure to do so will result in you stall converter always being in high stall mode.
Here are a few different options for controlling the converter.
- Use a timed delay box to have the converter go to low stall after you leave the starting line. These can be had from several different vendors.
- An RPM switch could have the converter lock up once your car is into its power band. Using something like the an MSD RPM switch for this would be a quick and easy setup.
- A simple switch can be used to allow full driver control of the system. For most those who want to have the most control of their driving experience this probably the best option. A nice shifter mounted button switch would make this a no-brainer.
If you decide to use one of these options simply put it in place of the simple toggle switch in the diagram above or use a 3 way selector switch and try several options.

I have a th400 and it has a 2 prong connector going to trans switch (when i bought the El Camino it was not connected) My question is the switch in the side of the trans has only one prong . Is this correct? your help would be appreciated

A standard th400 will have only the single horizontal prong. This controls transmission kickdown. It should be connected to a special kickdown switch that will either be mounted near your gas pedal, or near your carburetor.

It is possible to run without this, but your transmission will not automatically downshift under heavy throttle for passing, I hope that is helpful.

I have a switch pitch 400, what is the part number for the bosch relay that is shown in this article. Also the brake switch that you are referring to in this article; is it necessary or can you just use the switch or button.

I Have A 1967 Olds Switch pitch Th400, In My 1966 DATSON P-UP With A 3.8 Buick Engine. I Have Driven This P-UP For About 20 Years, With NO Problems. It’s A Great Way To Go. I Also Have A 1965 Chevy P-UP With A TH400 In It. (no switch pitch) I Want To Install The Parts To Make It S-P . I Would Like To Know,
